چکیده

In a porous material, both the pressure drop across a bubble and its speed are nonlinear functions of the fluid velocity. Nonlinear dynamics of bubbles in turn affect the macroscopic hydraulic conductivity, and thus the fluid velocity. We treat a porous medium as a network of tubes and combine critical path analysis with pore-scale results to predict the effects of bubble dynamics on the macroscopic hydraulic conductivity and bubble density. Critical path analysis uses percolation theory to find the dominant (approximately) one-dimensional flow paths. We find that in steady state, along percolating pathways, bubble density decreases with increasing fluid velocity, and bubble density is thus smallest in the smallest (critical) tubes. We find that the hydraulic conductivity increases monotonically with increasing capillary number up to Ca ∼ 10−2, but may decrease for larger capillary numbers due to the relative decrease of bubble density in the critical pores. We also identify processes that can provide a positive feedback between bubble density and fluid flow along the critical paths. The feedback amplifies statistical fluctuations in the density of bubbles, producing fluctuations in the hydraulic conductivity.

Study on Estimation of Hydraulic Conductivity of Porous Media Using Drag Force Model

The resistance is offered when the fluid flows through a porous medium which acts tangentially and perpendicularly to the surface of the media. This resistance offered by the porous mass can be analyzed by evaluating the ease with which water can flow through the porous media, and is expressed in terms of hydraulic conductivity or permeability of the porous medium. It involves a large number of...

Hydraulic Parameters Sensitivity Analysis of Porous Media at Inverse Solution of Bromide Transport

Simulation of water and salt transfer in soil is very effective in managing optimal water and fertilizer use in the field. In this study, the HYDRUS-1D model was used to simulate the transfer of water and bromide in a laboratory column of soil with clay loam texture. Soil hydraulic parameters (including air entry point) α, (saturated hydraulic conductivity) ks, (residual moisture content) θr (s...

In order to assess hydraulics of LNAPLs in soil, the soil retention curves of petroleum and water were both determined through hanging column method. And, the hydraulic conductivity of petroleum and water were determined by steady head method. The water and petroleum hydraulic conductivities were 7.27 and 57.84 cm.day-1, respectively. The soil retention parameters were obtained based on van Gen...

Determination of discharge coefficient of inbuilt spillway in rock- fill dams

According to the former researcher’s presented relations for flow through rock-fill porous media, the effects of physical characteristics was not studied separately. Hence, due to the application of these relations, physical characteristics of porous materials effect must be investigated separately. In various constructed physical models of porous media, the effect of several variables such as ...

Effects of particulates and lipids on the hydraulic conductivity of Matrigel.

The hydraulic conductivity of a connective tissue is determined both by the fine ultrastructure of the extracellular matrix and the effects of larger particles in the interstitial space. In this study, we explored this relationship by examining the effects of 30- or 90-nm-diameter latex nanospheres or low-density lipoproteins (LDL) on the hydraulic conductivity of Matrigel, a basement membrane ...
